Over 200 shanties burned down in Dimapur

A round 250 shanties were destroyed in a fire that broke out at Ura Villa Colony here Wednesday evening.

The fire & emergency services Dimapur office-in-charge, C Renbenthung Lotha, told Nagaland Post that the colony chairman’s report informed that approximately 250 households, most of whom were daily-wage workers, have been affected by the disaster. Properties worth several lakhs of rupees have been destroyed in the fire, he informed.

The OC said that after receiving fire call at around 5: 05 p.m. the fire and emergency services Dimapur mobilised six fire engines. He said that sufficient equipment and fire personnel were deployed to douse the inferno. Lotha said that it took four hours to bring the fire under control. The team was led by assistant sub inspector (ASI) Khamlu Phom.

The fire was suspected to be caused by an electric short circuit. However, there was no report of any casualty at the time of filling of this report.
