PAC appeals NPGs for tax exemption

Public Action Committee (PAC) of Naga Council Dimapur has appealed to all the Naga political groups to exempt Naga business houses from taxation. In a press release, PAC convenor Vekhosayi Nyekha and co-convenor Ghokheto Chophy stated that Naga educated youth have seriously started venturing into business as jobs in the government sector have reached a saturation point.

PAC said that Nagas have only recently opted business profession for livelihood, adding that challenges of competition with non-Nagas was huge. PAC has, therefore, maintained that Naga business fraternity be exempted from taxation to encourage them to grow and support the state’s economy. Further, PAC reaffirmed the stand of “One Government, One Tax”, which it said was the “desire and voice of the people.”

Meanwhile, PAC has appreciated and strongly supported NSCN (I-M)’s decision prohibiting trade licences of Nagas used by non-Nagas and prohibition of using non-Nagas to collect tax. PAC also welcomed the decision not to tax local agriculture products. It has appealed to all other NPGs to consider adopting the same.
