A meeting of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) was held September 1 at the State Banquet Hall, Kohima, under the chairmanship of chief minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, and attended by deputy chief ministers, ministers, members of parliament, advisors and MLAs.
According to DIPR, the committee unanimously resolved to endorse the “Ungma Statement” of August 23, 2025, which upholds unity, courage and the shared pursuit of a common future for the Nagas. It also expressed support for the call that all Naga Political Groups, with the collective backing of the tribe hohos, should converge at a common ground to pursue a shared political vision founded on the historical and political rights of the Nagas.
Further, the committee resolved that peace talks be resumed at the political level in order to expedite the negotiation process. The committee also reiterated the resolutions adopted during the consultative meeting held on September 12, 2024, at the State Banquet Hall, with the participation of tribal hohos, representatives of civil society, mass-based organizations, church bodies, NGOs, gazetted officers’ unions, student bodies and political parties.
The resolutions included appreciation to the Government of India and the Naga Political Groups for continuing to uphold ceasefire agreements and ensuring there was no breakdown of talks despite challenges faced over the past two decades.
It also appealed to all sections of Naga society to make further efforts towards strengthening unity and oneness, in order to bring all stakeholders of the peace process under a spirit of understanding.
The house agreed that all participants would make renewed efforts for unity of Naga society and appealed to Naga political groups and national workers to refrain from further factionalism, breakaway groups, or creation of new organizations.
The house also appealed to the Government of India to elevate the dialogue to the highest political level by appointing an interlocutor of political or ministerial level with the confidence and mandate of the government.
