PACSU rescues wild pigeon, rare monkey

Pungro Area College Students’ Union (PACSU) rescued a wild pigeon and rare species of monkey at Pungro on June 19 and 25 respectively. 

A press release from PACSU general secretary, Toshikhiung Yimchunger stated that, upon receiving the information, the executives of PACSU led by president Tokiu Yimchunger intervened and rescued them and released.
On June 19, a commonly known bird as “wild pigeon” was caught by a villager in the vicinity of Khongjiri village and subsequently brought to Pungro, whereby PACSU officials seized it and released to its natural habitat.
PACSU also rescued a monkey on June 25 belonging to Cercopithecidae family called Stumpt-Tailed Macaque, also called the Bear Macaque, caught by locals from across the border of Myanmar and later brought to Pungro. 
PACSU said that the rescued monkey is enlisted as “vulnerable” in the conservation status by IUCN and is protected under India Wildlife Act, 1972. 
The rescued monkey was released at Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary in the presence of Wildlife Division Kiphire along with community leaders.
PACSU stated that it will remain vigilant and endorse all its constituent units to strictly enforce the resolution comprehensively and initiate stringent action against infringement of resolution. 
Pungro Area College Students’ Union  further acknowledged and thanked Wildlife Division Kiphire, Fakim Village Council, Fakim VillageStudents’ Union and Bhutan Glory Eco-Tourism Club for their timely intervention and assistance.
