Padma Shri awardee L. Hangthing honored

A felicitation program was held on June 2 at White Hall, Noklak Village to honor L. Hangthing, recipient of the Padma Shri Award 2025 in Agriculture, known as Nagaland’s ‘Fruit Man.’
The event was jointly organized by Noklak Village Council, Thang Public Organization, and Thang Students’ Union.
According to a DIPR report, Hangthing expressed gratitude to the organizers and the community, reflecting on his journey from planting discarded seeds to overcoming challenges. He dedicated the award to the farmers of Nagaland and the Khiamniungan tribe, emphasizing that even small appreciation can motivate someone to keep striving. He highlighted agriculture as an age-old practice passed down through generations, strengthened by government support.
During the event, Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) president Ngon described the recognition as historic, as it was the first time a member of the Khiamniungan tribe has received such an honor. He expressed hope that this achievement would inspire future successes. Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) president Shangchiu stressed the importance of cultivating a culture of appreciation, while Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam (KMH) president Chongkoi thanked Thang Village elders and church leaders, attributing the accomplishment to their wisdom and prayers.
SDO (Civil) Noklak, Vikhoto Richa praised Hangthing for his dedication and resilience, calling him an inspiration. Deacon Board of Baptist Church Thang Village led a special prayer, seeking God’s blessings on his achievements.
The program was chaired by associate pastor Longkoi Khiamniungan, with an invocation by Reverend Chellia. Noklak Village Council chairman Panpan welcomed the guests and congratulated the awardees for bringing pride to the community. Executive chairman of TPO delivered a vote of thanks, and pastor Kai of Kusong Baptist Church led the closing prayer.
At the event, Dr. Heme Lamthaiu was recognized for earning a Doctorate in Philosophy, while students Niamkoi P and Phaam B were honored for securing 7th and 15th rank in the HSLC examination under NBSE.
