Paiwang seeks Centre support for modernization of health infra

DIMAPUR: Minister for Health & Family Welfare, P. Paiwang Konyak, has sought enhanced central support for modernization and upgradation of ageing health infrastructure across primary, secondary and tertiary levels, particularly in view of Nagaland’s first batch of MBBS graduates expected in 2028.
Paiwang, who attended the 16th Conference of the Central Council of Health & Family Welfare at New Delhi on June 29, also proposed adoption of region specific costing under Centrally Sponsored Schemes to reflect higher construction and logistics costs in hilly and remote states. He further appealed for a review of the NHM resource allocation formula, urging greater weightage to terrain, remoteness, population dispersion and the minimum cost of sustaining essential health services, instead of relying predominantly on population. Acknowledging the continued support of the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister J. P. Nadda towards strengthening healthcare services in Nagaland, Paiwang reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3- Good Health and Well being.
In his address, Paiwang highlighted Nagaland’s efforts in building an equitable, resilient and accessible healthcare system, while placing key issues before the Council. He reiterated the need for region specific costing and a review of NHM resource allocation to ensure equitable development for hilly and remote states.
Concluding his address, Paiwang appealed to Union Minister Nadda to consider the issues in the spirit of cooperative federalism and equitable development. He expressed confidence that the conference would strengthen India’s collective commitment towards building a more resilient, inclusive and equitable healthcare system, while thanking the Ministry and participating states and union territories for their continued partnership.
The conference was graced by Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, J. P. Nadda, and attended by Health Ministers from various states and union territories.
