Panel asked to submit report on land encroachment in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, SEP 22 (NPN)

A 10-member committee constituted in 2023, which has now been expanded to 13-member committee, has been tasked with preparing a comprehensive report on land encroachment across Dimapur and submit it to the state government for further action.
According to a DIPR report, this was disclosed by deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur Dr. Tinojongshi Chang during monthly Dimapur District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting held in the conference hall of DC Dimapur on September 22, 2025 under the chairmanship of advisor for labour & employment, skill development & entrepreneurship, & excise department, Moatoshi Longkumer.
Reviewing the minutes of the last meeting, DC Dimapur highlighted the pressing issue of land encroachment in key public areas, including the Dimapur Airport, District Hospital, and Railway Station.
Dr. Chang informed that a 10-member Committee was constituted in 2023 to verify cases of encroachment in the drainage system within Dimapur district. In the latest review, he said the committee resolved to strengthen the committee by adding three new members—commissioner of police (CP) Dimapur, Naga Council Dimapur, and East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) administrator.
DC Dimapur also informed the house that responsibilities for the road sector have already been divided between the Public Works Department and the Urban Development Department for better management.
Meanwhile, the drainage encroachment verification committee, headed by the revenue officer, Dimapur, submitted its report/findings to the DPDB chairman during its meeting. As per the findings in the report, the house resolved to undertake a final spot verification soon and demolish those structures which encroached upon the natural flow of drainage in Dimapur.
Speaking at the meeting, advisor Moatoshi Longkumer highlighted the urgent need for collective efforts to improve the district, stressing that drainage remains the most pressing issue.
He directed the urban development department to immediately take up maintenance work to address the problem.
Longkumer expressed gratitude to the CP Dimapur for her attention and cooperation in ensuring Dimapur’s safety.
Meanwhile, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) chief executive officer, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, announced that “Run 4 Green Dimapur” would be held on September 27 to create awareness on environmental protection.
On implementation of Nagaland Special Development Zone (NSDZ) in Dimapur district, the board members, along with the civil society organisations, discussed the criteria laid down by the state government at length and decided to submit a suggestion to the state government before the implementation.
The various agendas for the meeting included education, infrastructure, and development in Dimapur.
At the meeting, a PowerPoint presentation was given by urban development and in the next DPDB meeting, Vetanery Department and DMC would give presentation. The members also welcomed four new members, Kevilenuo Solo (UDO), Dr T. Yetovi Tuccu (CMO), Jevika Kiba (DEO Dimapur), and Keholeno Kennao (Sr. Tourist Officer)
