Panel to examine disparity in promotion of UBIs: DGP

State police department has set up a committee to examine disparity and anomalies in the promotion of Unarmed Branch Inspectors (UBIs), DGP Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, said on Monday.
UBI Forum Nagaland (UBIFN) on May 14 last submitted a representation to the home commissioner explaining in detail the disparity in promotion wherein their own batch mates in armed battalions (IRB) have been promoted faster than them.
The forum on Saturday last held their first ever interaction with the DGP and high ranking officials of home department.
Interacting with a section of media persons at his office chamber Monday, DGP said after the receipt of the representation a committee was formed to study the issue. The committee has been asked to submit a report at the earliest, he said.
Sharma also informed that at the department level they would do whatever possible, but would have to look up to the government for final resolution.
DGP assured that home department would initiate measure to address the problems so some degree of balance could be maintained. He opined that there was requirement of adjustment from both sides to bring about parity in the system though it could take some time.
Police chief said that the issue was not new and needed to be addressed as it creates problems in the force. He also admitted that in some cases, junior officers in armed branch have become senior over their unarmed branch officers.
