Pangmo – the post harvest festival – was celebrated at Yongshei village on September 30. The festival which also marks the end of the year of Phom community and celebrated every year by Phoms right after harvest season was organised by Yongshei village council with much pomp and gaiety.
Speaking at the celebration as chief guest, additional deputy commissioner Longleng, Temsuwati Longkumer, encouraged Phoms to preserve their culture and tradition so that they would not lose their identity.
He also advised them to improvise their traditional practices as the community embrace modernisation.
While appreciating Yongshei village council and other stakeholders of the village for reserving the forest, Longkumer advised the villagers to maintain clean environment and discourage de-forestation.
Others who spoke on the occasion include extra assistant commissioner, Yongnyah and Yongshei village council, chairman, P.Haujai Phom.
The programme was lead by K.Phongphen Phom, invocation by Yongsgei Baptist Church, Pastor Issac Phom, significance of Pangmo was by L.Wangshong Phom, folksong was presented by Mauhivangvungla group, vote of thanks by GB H.Nganchong and benediction by women Pastor, Y.Henuh Phom.
The daylong celebration was also attended by officers and staffs of Yongnyah EAC headquarters, officials from district disaster management office Longleng, DBs from Longleng and Yongnyah, village council members from Tangha, Orangkong and Yongnyah villages.
