PAPO holds bamboo plantation drive

DIMAPUR: Phokhungri Area Public Organisation (PAPO) organised a voluntary bamboo plantation drive and observed “Bamboo Plantation Day” on May 23, 2026 across all ten villages under its jurisdiction.
The programme was conducted with the objective of promoting environmental conservation and encouraging self-reliance through bamboo cultivation, recognised as a sustainable resource for domestic, economic and community purposes.
The initiative was undertaken in pursuance of a resolution adopted during the PAPO Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting. In response, village authorities, community leaders, youth organisations and residents actively participated in the plantation drive, demonstrating their commitment towards environmental protection and sustainable development.
PAPO expressed appreciation to all villages and individuals who contributed to the successful observance of the programme.
It emphasized that bamboo, being a fast-growing and versatile plant, plays a significant role in ecological restoration, soil conservation, livelihood generation and meeting the daily needs of rural communities.
The organisation further urged villages and stakeholders to nurture the planted saplings and strengthen collective efforts towards preserving the environment for future generations.
