Parvovirus infection reported in canine pets

Dogs affected with Parvovirus infection has been reported in Jalukie under Peren district. The disease is caused by canine parvovirus which is highly contagious. The dogs affected with the Parvo viral infection become dull, and refuse to take food. In a press release, the dean of college of veterinary sciences & animal husbandry, Jalukie (CAU, Imphal), Peren district stated Veterinary Clinical Complex, located at Jalukie colony has lately been receiving a number of cases.

The dean stated that since there was no antiviral drug, the affected puppy or dog has to be given supportive therapy mainly intravenous fluids to prevent dehydration and antibiotics to prevent secondary infections. Vaccination and good hygiene were the only preventive measures, the dean stated. Stating that necessary vaccines were available at the Veterinary Clinical Complex, Jalukie colony, the dean has advised pet owners to protect their pets with timely and regular vaccination.
