Nagaland deputy chief minister Y. Patton has reiterated his assurance that the ongoing police recruitment process in the state would be conducted with transparency and fairness.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of an event here on Thursday, Patton said the state government has taken note of complaints regarding earlier recruitment processes, including concerns about evaluation and marking of candidates. He said steps have been taken to ensure that the present recruitment exercise followed a proper and transparent selection procedure.
On the announcement made by DGP on January 12 regarding recruitment of around 1,200 police personnel, which is expected to be completed by June subject to government approval, Patton said the final number of vacancies could vary depending on the government’s decision.
Patton, who also hold home portfolio, expressed hope that the improved system would ensure a fair opportunity for all eligible candidates and help strengthen public confidence in the police recruitment process.
Condemns racial and physical assault: Patton also strongly condemned the recent racial and physical assault on a young doctor from Nagaland in Gorakhpur, along with the alleged racial abuse and intimidation of three women from Arunachal Pradesh in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar.
Patton said the Nagaland government has taken up incidents of racial slurs against people from the Northeast with the Government of India.
Patton emphasized that such incidents were not isolated, but part of a recurring pattern of racial discrimination, harassment, and violence faced by people from the Northeast in different parts of the country.
He stated that such repeated acts of prejudice and aggression reflected a deeply troubling reality that must be covnfronted with honesty and decisive action. “Racism and violence in any form are intolerable and must be dealt with through the strictest measures,” Patton asserted.
Further, he appealed to the investigating and law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation, apprehend the culprits, and ensure that appropriate punishment was awarded in accordance with the law.
He also urged the people from the northeast region to remain united and continue to raise their voices against racial discrimination.
