WOKHA, Jun 13 (NPN): Deputy chief minister, Y. Patton urged voters and party workers to uphold the principle of “one man, one vote” and ensure a free and fair election.
He was addressing the BJP campaign programme for the forthcoming Wokha Town Council by election at Tsumang B (Ward 8) on June 13.
He appealed to the electorate not to seek financial inducements from candidates but to vote according to conscience. Patton also called upon the district administration and police authorities to ensure a peaceful electoral process, warning that any malpractice detected would be reported to the Election Commission for necessary action, including re polling if required.
The programme was attended by advisor for Information & Public Relations and Soil & Water Conservation Daochier I. Imchen, BJP Nagaland president Benjamin Yepthomi, party leaders and supporters.
Speaking at the gathering, Yepthomi urged party workers to remain united and strengthen the party in the district. He noted that despite the Lotha community having only four Assembly seats, it had produced the Deputy Chief Minister, and called on workers to further strengthen his leadership. Highlighting achievements of the BJP led government, he said the party remained committed to welfare through schemes and development initiatives, claiming major infrastructure projects had been undertaken under BJP leadership.
Advisor Daochier I. Imchen stressed that governance must begin at the grassroots level, describing urban local body elections as vital to strengthening local governance. He said the party had fielded Mhomo Humtsoe after thorough assessment, describing him as a dedicated candidate, and appealed to supporters to ensure his victory.
BJP candidate Mhomo Humtsoe expressed confidence in the party’s prospects and urged voters to exercise their franchise fearlessly. He also sought adequate security arrangements on polling day to ensure a smooth and peaceful election.
Dimapur Municipal Council councillor and BJYM Nagaland president V. Khekato Awomi urged voters not to fear intimidation and stressed that no proxy voting should take place. He appealed to the electorate to vote freely and honestly without external influence.
