Nagaland deputy chief minister Y Patton has expressed deep shock and grave concern over the repeated incidents of racial discrimination faced by people from the North East region in different parts of the country.
In a statement, Patton strongly condemned the alleged assault and racial abuse inflicted on two individuals from the North East near the Saket District Court Complex in New Delhi on March 8, 2026. Asserting that such acts of prejudice and bias were not only hurtful but also go against the values of unity and inclusivity that the country stands for, Patton questioned “When will we learn to see each other as Indians first?”
Further, Patton said it was disheartening to see individuals being judged or mistreated based on their appearance, ethnicity or place of origin. He called upon all to come together to promote understanding, empathy and respect for all cultures and communities.
Patton asserted that every Indian deserved to be treated with dignity, regardless of their background. “We must celebrate our diversity and recognize the strength it brings to our nation and promote inclusivity,” he added.
The deputy chief minister also urged everyone to stand against racism and promote inclusivity in all aspects of life. He further called for building a society where everyone feels valued, respected and safe.
Patton remarked that racism and violence were completely unacceptable and deserved strict legal consequences.
