In a landmark development for law enforcement in Kiphire district, the deputy chief minister of Nagaland and minister for Home & Border Affairs, Yanthungo Patton, inaugurated the office of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Ex-Officio) at Pungro on Friday. The inauguration ceremony, held at the newly established office premises, drew a wide array of dignitaries and community leaders.
In a press release, deputy CMO office media cell informed that delivering the keynote address, Patton lauded the collaborative efforts of government officials, law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders in bringing the project to fruition. He underscored the strategic importance of the SDPO Office in enhancing policing infrastructure and ensuring effective governance at the sub-divisional level.
“This office is not merely a building, it represents our commitment to uphold law and order, protect our citizens, and foster public confidence in the justice system,” Patton stated. He emphasized that the facility would serve as a vital link between the administration and the people, enabling swift and accessible responses to public grievances and security concerns.
Highlighting the broader vision of the Home & Border Affairs Department, the deputy chief minister reiterated the government’s dedication to strengthening institutional frameworks across remote and underserved regions. He called upon the police personnel to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in their service to the people.
Patton also acknowledged the unique challenges faced by frontier areas like Pungro and assured continued support for infrastructure development, capacity building, and community engagement. “We must ensure that every citizen, regardless of location, feels secure and heard,” he added.
The event was graced by advisor for Home Guard & Civil Defence, Fire & Emergency Services, Relief & Rehabilitation, S. Kiusumew Yimchunger, MLA as the guest of honour. The programme featured a guard of honour, unveiling of a monolith, invocation, welcome remarks, cultural performances and closing speeches.
Prominent attendees included Inspector General of Police (ADM) Videlaile Zashumo; Deputy Commissioner Kiphire, Temsuwati Longkumer; Superintendent of Police Kiphire, Chinese Chakhesang; Addl. SP Kiphire, Disani Newmai; executive chairman Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC), Makezho; ADC Pungro Nelizho Tep; Commandant 14th IRB, Khrusuothu Nyuthe; and former minister V. Kashiho Sangtam.
Following the inauguration, Patton held a public meeting where he interacted with local residents, listened to their concerns and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive development and responsive administration.
The programme concluded with a folk song performance by Yimkhiung Liperü Arih Ako and a community lunch for all attendees.
