DIMAPUR: Deputy Chief Minister for Home & Border Affairs Yanthungo Patton on Friday visited the July 19 landslide affected sites at Defence Colony, Thamnan Ward and Techa Ward, Mon Town. He was accompanied by advisor Sethrongkiu Sangtam, MLAs Naiba Konyak, Limaonen Chang, Manpon Konyak, ADGP Renchamo Kikon and IGP V.Z. Angami.
A DIPR report informed that during a briefing at the DC’s Conference Hall, Mon, Patton termed the July 19 incident as an unfortunate natural disaster and the first of its kind in Nagaland in recent times.
He assured that the government would extend all possible assistance for restoration in Mon, adding that verification reports from the administration, police, DDMA and civil societies would be forwarded to the Centre for early restoration measures.
Appealing to the public not to believe unverified news circulated on social media, Patton said both the State Government and Central team had visited and verified the site, assuring support.
He also expressed gratitude to the rescue teams led by the District Administration, Police headed by SP Mon, SDRF, KU, KNSK, KSU, and volunteers for their sacrifices.
Deputy Commissioner Mon, Wennyei Konyak, chaired the meeting, delivered the welcome address and presented a short video clip of the July 19 incident.
He expressed optimism that Mon would be rebuilt with the support and blessings of the government.
Meanwhile, Minister for Rural Development & SIRD Metsubo Jamir, accompanied by advisor for Fisheries & Aquatic Resources A. Pangjung Jamir and advisor for Information & Public Relations, Soil & Water Conservation Daochir Imchen, visited various flood affected sites at Tuli on August 13.
Earlier, a consultative meeting was held at Tuliyong Community Hall with the administration and council chairmen of wards and villages.
The team acknowledged the prompt actions taken by stakeholders during and after the calamity, and encouraged continued selfless contributions in the days ahead.
