KOHIMA, JUN 12: State deputy chief minister, Y Patton, on Friday described the killing of six Naga civilians in neighbouring Manipur as “very unfortunate” and appealed to all communities to maintain peace and harmony.
Interacting with media persons on the sidelines of an event here, Patton said such violence was unexpected. He recalled that 14 Kuki civilians, who were kidnapped by Naga groups, were released unharmed. Patton said he failed to understand why the suspected Kuki militants had “massacred, killed and assassinated” six Naga civilians.
He appealed to Kuki militants, Nagas and Meiteis to exercise restraint and maintain peace amid the ongoing ethnic tensions.(More condemnations on p-4)
