PCC Dept of Education conducts soft skills workshop

DIMAPUR:

The Department of Education, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), organised a workshop on ‘Soft Skills: The key to professional and personal growth’ at the college conference hall on March 16. The session aimed to equip students with essential interpersonal and professional skills needed for career development. The resource person of the program was YouthNet, programme coordinator, Lika Chophy.
During the workshop, Chophy spoke on career development, emphasised the importance of self-assessment in making informed career choices. She noted that careers shape both personal fulfilment and financial stability. She noted that many individuals often choose careers under the influence of external factors such as television, the internet, friends, parents, and life experiences.
Drawing from her experience with YouthNet, she highlighted the growing importance of soft skills, stating that employers often value attitude over aptitude. She outlined key skills including communication, time management, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Explaining communication skills, she stressed both verbal and non-verbal aspects and introduced the “Seven Cs” of effective communication. She also cautioned that poor tone is a major cause of conflict.
Chophy urged students to manage their time wisely, respect the dignity of labour, while emphasising the importance of teamwork and problem-solving skills.
In her concluding remarks, Chophy encouraged students to continuously improve their abilities by investing in self-development, practising regularly, seeking mentors, identifying their strengths and weaknesses, remaining open to feedback, and maintaining a lifelong commitment to learning and exploration.
The event was chaired by Neilevono Vupru, who also delivered the invocation. The workshop concluded with an interactive session.
