PDCCI, PTBA to observehalf-day shutdown on Aug 14

DIMAPUR, AUG 12 (NPN)

Phek District Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PDCCI) on Tuesday announced that half-day shutter-down of all business establishments would be observed across Phek district until 12noon on August 14, 2025.
In a press release, PDCCI president Razoukhruyi Dozo and general secretary Pio Veswu said the proposed shutter-down was “a mark of deep respect and solidarity with our freedom fighters — those who gave their sweat, tears, and lives for the dream of a free Nagaland.”
PDCCI stated that Naga people, in the early years, stood united under one vision and one cause. However, it said that over time unity had been fractured, adding that today Nagas face the reality of multiple political groups claiming to represent the Naga cause.
The chamber stated that divisions have weakened collective voice, prolonged the resolution of Naga political issue, and placed “unnecessary economic burdens” on businesses and the public through overlapping taxation resulting in price rise.
Asserting that it was now time for unity, PDCCI has appealed to all Naga political groups (NPGs) to unite as one body to represent the Naga people with a single, strong, and transparent voice.
It also urged NPGs to work towards a reliable, approachable, and practical political solution acceptable to all Nagas. PDCCI appealed to NPGs to end the practice of multiple and overlapping taxation and place peace, unity, and economic stability above all factional or organisational gains.
As Nagas mark the upcoming “Naga Independence Day”, the PDCCI has called upon every national worker to remember the sacrifices of history, honour the unity of forefathers, and choose reconciliation over division. “Let this 14th August be more than a date on the calendar. Let it be a call to conscience — a reminder that our true strength lies in standing together as one people,” PDCCI stated. It urged every citizen, tribal body, church, and civil society organisation to join in the call for “one voice, one solution, and one future” for the Naga people.
PTBA: Pfutsero Town Business Association (PTBA) informed that in alliance with PDCCI it would observe a half-day shutdown of all business establishments at Pfutsero town on August 14, 2025, until 12noon.
PTBA through its media cell stated that August 14, which also marks “Naga Independence Day”, was a timely reminder of the unity and determination of forefathers. “It is a day to reflect on our shared history and choose the path of oneness over division,” PTBA stated.
Expressing concern over the continued fragmentation and disunity among the various NPGs, the association stated that the Naga movement has, once united under a single vision and purpose, splintered into nearly 30 factions, each pursuing its own course.
PTBA stated that division has weakened the collective Naga voice, delayed any meaningful political resolution, and created an environment of economic strain, social confusion, and public frustration.
It reminded all stakeholders that the original spirit of the Naga struggle was built on unity, shared sacrifice, and a common purpose.
PTBA stated that today the consequences were being felt not only in political uncertainty but in the daily lives and livelihoods of the Naga people. “Entrepreneurs and traders struggle to survive, investments are discouraged, and public trust in leadership is fading as the situation remains unresolved year after year,” the traders body stated.
Therefore, PTBA has appealed to all NPGs to reconcile, unite, and work towards a practical, achievable, honest, and transparent solution.
PTBA also called upon every national worker to remember the sacrifices of history, honour the unity of forefathers, and choose reconciliation over division.
The association appealed to civil society organisations, tribal bodies, church leaders, youth groups, and citizens across the Naga homeland to support this united stand. “Together, let us send a strong and clear message: the Naga people want unity, they want resolution, and they want it now,” PTDA stated.
