Peren District Legal services in collaboration with Jalukie Town Women Welfare Association (JTWWA) observed international women’s week-cum-legal awareness programme at Jalukie town, Peren, with the theme “pledge for parity”.
On the occasion, DC Peren, Peter Lichamo spoke on gender equality and child psychology, wherein he said that even though Naga society was patriarchal, 90% of the household was managed by women.
In this regard, he said the responsibility and welfare of the children laid upon the women, which entail her to be educated on child psychology along with legal rights to shape the future of the child.
The programme chaired by EAC Peren, Tsidi witnessed lighting of candle by all the participants, while the pledge was read out by 1st class judicial magistrate Peren and PDLSA secretary, Ajongba Imchen.
He also highlighted on the fundamental duties of every citizen and stressed it as one of “our” duties to exercise Right to Information (RTI) empowered to all for the betterment of our society and not to misuse RTI. During the second session, panel lawyers PDLSA, Asungbe, Italang Ramlia, Limasenla Longkumer and Esther K Aye spoke on various topics like “child rights”, “maintenance under 125 crpc”, various welfare schemes for women and gender equality.
