PDLSA organizes Legal Awareness programme

DIMAPUR

Peren District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) organized a Legal Awareness Programme on August 16 at the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Peren. The programme was conducted under the NALSA DAWN Scheme 2025, with the central theme “Drug Awareness and Wellness Navigation for Drug Free India.”
According to a press release by PDLSA, delivering the first session, Retainer Lawyer, PDLSA, Italang Ramlia, gave an overview of the Legal Services Authority, outlining its objectives and commitment to ensuring access to justice for all. He also spoke in detail about vetero-legal cases, particularly the procedures and importance of post-mortem examinations in animals, explaining how such reports serve as crucial evidence in courts of law.
The second session was presented by Panel Lawyer, PDLSA, Idosile, who focused on Anti-Ragging Laws in India. The presentation was especially timely as the college was concurrently observing Anti-Ragging Week from August 12 to 18. She explained what constitutes ragging under Indian law, the legal provisions that prohibit it, and the punitive actions that institutions must undertake—including suspension, expulsion, and criminal prosecution. She emphasized the responsibility of educational institutions in creating a safe and respectful environment.
In the final session, Kewithinwang, also a Panel Lawyer with PDLSA, presented on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. She detailed the legal framework governing narcotic substances, penalties for violations, and the crucial role of enforcement agencies. Addressing students directly, she warned of the rising misuse of drugs among youth and students, often linked to academic stress and peer pressure. She underlined both the legal and social consequences of drug abuse, reinforcing the need for awareness and prevention.
An interactive discussion session followed the presentations, where participants clarified their doubts, shared opinions, and engaged in meaningful dialogue with the panel lawyers.
The programme was highly informative and beneficial, creating awareness on vital legal issues such as veterinary-related cases, anti-ragging measures, and narcotic laws. The special emphasis on the theme “Drug Awareness and Wellness Navigation for Drug Free India” under the NALSA Dawn Scheme 2025 made the event particularly significant for the student community.
The Initiative of PDLSA was well appreciated by the participants, who actively engaged in the discussions and expressed the need for more such awareness programs in the future.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by assistant professor, Department of Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology,W. Ramdas and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dean of the Institute, Dr. I. Shakuntala.
