Peren District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) organized an orientation programme for the Para Legal Volunteers (PLV) and panel lawyers on January 28 at DC conference hall, New HQ Peren.
During the orientation, secretary PDLSA, Judicial Magistrate, Peren, Ajongba Imchen presented the introductory remark on the works of PLVs in various Legal Aid Clinics (LACs) under Peren district.
He also said that through the effort of PLVs and awareness programmes amongst the village council members, in churches and schools results in forwarding the cases to the front office PDLSA.
PLVs were present from Athibung, Jalukie, Dungki, Peren Town, Heningkunglwa, Njauna LACs and other villages.
In the orientation programme “best PLV awardees for the year 2013 -14” was awarded to Rampauyi from Peren district who also shared his success story as a PLV.
PLV Lipok from Heningkunglwa and Azeu from Peren town associated with an NGO working for HIV and drug abuse victims shared their experiences working with the weaker section of the society and to help victims of domestic violence in the village.
The issues regarding absence of a permanent medical officer at Peren sub jail resulting in neglect of inmates who are victims of drug abuse and HIV positive who require constant medical attention was also discussed in the programme.
Panel Lawyer, Esther K Aye highlighted on the various activities of PDLSA including court based legal aid services, jail visits, Lok Adalat conducted since the establishment of PDLSA front office in the year 2012.
She said that besides the best PLV award, PDLSA was also adjusted as the best district legal services authority under Nagaland State.
Esther K Aye also mentioned that legal awareness programmes and legal literacy seminars have reached to the remotes of the village under Peren district covering Beisumpuilo village bordering NC Hills, Njauna bordering Manipur and Poilwa village covering 25 villages since its inception.
Member Secretary, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) Nino Iralu, introduced seven new welfare schemes under the National Legal Services Authority to provide such services by the PLVs and panel lawyers according to the local needs and to act as a bridge which will connect the beneficiary with the concerned department to avail the services as provided under the schemes
It may be mentioned that the schemes are NALSA (Victims of Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation) Scheme, 2015, NALSA (Child Friendly Legal Services to Children and their Protection) Scheme, 2015, NALSA (Legal Services to the Mentally ILL and Mentally Disabled Persons) Scheme, 2015, NALSA (Effective Implementation of Poverty Alleviation Schemes) 2015, NALSA (Protection and Enforcement of Tribal Rights) Scheme, 2015, NALSA (Legal Services to the Victims of Drug Abuse and Eradication of Drug Menace Scheme, 2015, NALSA (Legal Services to the Workers in the Unorganized Sector) Scheme, 2015.
