Phek District Maytas-Gayatri Damaged Victim Association (PDMGDVA) has announced its plan to launch phase-wise agitation if the state government remained non-committal.
In a press release, PDMGDVA convener Pushovoyi Nyekha and general secretary Kuvesa Medeo stated that the association postponed its proposed agitation from December 1-7 following an appeal made by deputy chief minister TR. Zeliang and other concerned authorities.
PDMGDVA reminded that the proposed stir was postponed on condition that if the state government still failed to clear the pending matter within that interim period the association would go ahead with its agitation from December 8.
The association said its members met deputy chief minister on December 5 and reiterated their unwavering demand for immediate release of compensation.
Stating that the matter pertaining to the state government’s non-compliance with contempt order (03.10.2023) would come up second time on December 7, the association said it has also decided to wait for the hearing.
However, if the state government remained non-committal and if the counsel again seeks more time from the Court, the association said it would start agitation on December 9.
In the first phase of agitation, PDMGDVA would impose 12-hour road blockade on December 9 from 6am–6pm along 2 Lane Chakhabama-Zunheboto Road under Chozuba Sub-Division, from Sedzu Bridge (East) to Dzulhami jurisdiction bordering Zunheboto District (North), and 2 Lane Pfutsero-Phek Road, from Rukizu Junction, Pfutsero (West) to Upper Khomi jurisdiction bordering Losami’s (East). It said there would be no agitation on Sunday.
PDMGDVA stated that entry point to 2 Lane Chakhabama–Zunheboto Road namely Chesezu junction from Pfutsero, Runguzu Nasa junction from Phek via Thevopisu, Chozuba junction from Iganumi/Ghathashi, Chozuba junction from Kohima via Kijumetu/Khusoh, Sekruzu/Suthozu junction from Phek via Phugi & Ruzazho would be affected.
Similarly, entry point to 2 Lane Pfutsero–Phek Road from Chizami to Sakrabami & Upper Khomi junction would be affected. Therefore, it has requested commuters to avoid taking those roads during the period of agitation.
However, it has exempted vehicular movement of administration, police, armed forces, hospital duty/patients, funeral, wedding, students & exams and harvesting farmers.
PDMGDVA stated that second phase of agitation would begin on December 11 should the state government continue to withhold the release. It said agitation would be intensified in terms of hours and days till the pending matter was cleared.
The Association has advised its unit in respective village/town of all two-lane road affected ranges to monitor the agitation process democratically and ethically, and ensure that no undesirable incident or situation was created. Volunteers have been advised to remain vigilant throughout.
