Peren District Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (PDVCO) has alleged gross irregularities in the implementation of the Centre’s flagship Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Peren district by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department.
In a statement, PDVCO Jalukie Valley in-charge Hiacheulak Hegui said the organisation had carried out a survey covering almost every village under Peren district with an aim to assist and investigate the purported work done by the department while implementing the scheme at ground zero. However, PDVCO condemned the department for having claimed in a reply to the organisation’s RTI application of having accomplished its assigned duties in implementing JJM in Peren. PDVCO alleged that the department had obtained completion certificates for almost all villages, though the reality on the ground was totally different. It demanded to know why completion certificates were issued by the higher authority without proper scrutiny and survey.
PDVCO also expressed surprised that in spite of maximum allotment of funds by the ministry for the mission, the department had allegedly exhausted the allotted funds without completion of works. PDVCO further claimed that most villages that were allotted for the mission were found to be neglected with no development work progressing.
PDVCO alleged that the level of corruption was staggering and only the common people had to bear the brunt. It claimed that it had collected necessary evidence to corner all officials involved in corruption while implementing JJM.
PDVCO cautioned that PHED would be held accountable and called for completing the project within the stipulated period. PDVCO said it had undertaken the task of verifying on the ground and pledged that it would strive to thwart any form of malpractice and corruption existing in any government institution.
It further appealed to every right-thinking citizen to come forward and work in unison to fight against the culture of corruption and assured that any official involved in corrupt practices would not go scot-free. PDVCO vowed to stand by its motto “Justice for All” and said that the organisation would fight tooth and nail until justice was delivered.
