
One-day seminar cum induction of new members was organized by Peace Channel Peren Chapter at All Saints Higher Secondary School hall, Peren town on February 25 with Martha Caceres and Mohit Nahar from Liverpool Hope University UK as the resource persons.
In her address Martha Caceras said peace was not only an absence of direct violence but peace should also represent a scenario where individuals or communities were not harmed by any other kinds of violence.
She quoted, John Paul Lederach, a recognized peace builder scholar and said that relationships were main essence in peace.
In her concluding remark she called upon the participants and said when “we give skills to our children, teachers and leaders on how to manage an emotion and respond to conflict”, the conflict is transformed into learning.
Speaking on ‘Inner peace,’ Mohit Nahar quoted the words of Sydney Madwed, “Those who are at war with others are not at peace with themselves.” He further added to become an agent of peace it was necessary to start feeling peace inside of self. He also mentioned that when “we transformed our self, it would give us more awareness and more love towards our self”. In the programme, concept and functioning of peace coordination committee was covered by project coordinator peace channel, Janthuiyang RK John and multi-media presentation and introduction to Peace Channel was given by district coordinator Peren, David Ndang.
Earlier at the programme, welcome address was delivered by principal, All Saints Higher Secondary School (ASHSS), Rev. Fr. Philip Mhonchumo.
Thirty-four new club members from All Saints Higher Secondary Schools (ASHSS), Baptist High School (BHS) and Government Middle School Peren (GMSP) were inducted into the Peace Club by Teacher animator (ASHSS), George.
The program that began with God’s blessing by chairman, Pastor’s Fellowship Peren town, Dr. Hiazuheing and concluded the programme with peace anthem by the congregation.
