Against the backdrop of recent incident between Diezephe and Tsithrongse village over land boundary dispute on February 9, 2024, the Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD) and Eastern Nagaland Peoples Union Dimapur (ENPUD) have set up “peace committee for Diezephe & Tsithrongse Village” to resolve their 35-year-long dispute.
In a press release, peace committee member secretary Er. Caleb Kent stated that decision to set up peace committee was taken after the two apex bodies held a marathon meeting at Dimapur on February 27, 2024.
At the meeting, the member had unanimously selected presidents of TUD and ENPUD—
L. Shahoto Yimkhiung and Vekhosayi Nyekha—as convenor and co-convenor for the peace committee along with five representatives from both the unions. It was also decided that five members each from the two villages would be part of the committee.
Following the setting up the committee, representatives from both the unions visited the two villages for consultative meeting. At the meeting, both the villages agreed to give written endorsement to the peace committee to bring final and amicable solutions to their long-pending disputes.
Therefore, the peace committee has appealed to both the villages to maintain the status quo as per government order until the matter was amicably resolved for final agreement.
