The inaugural Cosmos Festival at Peletkie Village under Peren district has entered its third day, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of over 2,000 visitors since its launch on October 10. Organised by the Peletkie Youth Organisation, the week-long celebration will continue until October 15, showcasing the village’s vibrant cosmos flower gardens in full bloom.
Located just 5 to 6 kilometres from Peren Town, Peletkie Village has become a regional sensation, with social media platforms flooded with photos and reels of the blooming cosmos flowers. The official Instagram page of the village, along with individual posts, has played a key role in attracting visitors from neighbouring districts including Kohima, Chümoukedima, Dimapur, and even Karbi Anglong in Assam.
The festival’s sixth day will feature a series of competitions such as airgun shooting, catapult shooting, penalty shootout, and a mobile photography contest. A trekking event to the village’s renowned waterfall is scheduled for October 14, open to individuals and groups. For the photography contest, participants must follow the village’s official Instagram page (Peletkie Village Official), pay an entry fee of Rs. 50, and submit photos featuring cosmos flowers taken within Peletkie Village. Entries are due by October 25, with winners to be announced on November 1.
Visitors have been enjoying the scenic beauty of the cosmos fields, often arriving with family, friends and school groups. Organisers noted that the entire village is enveloped in cosmos blooms, a result of eight years of dedicated planting and regular colony-wise cleanliness competitions. The peak blooming season typically falls in the second week of October.
The festival is being held in collaboration with the Photography Club Peren, which is offering free photography services to visitors throughout the event.
To accommodate guests, tea and food stalls have been set up offering exotic Naga delicacies such as king hornet, small hornet, crab, local chicken, and river fish.
The village is easily accessible, with a travel time of 10 to 15 minutes from Peren Town and approximately 40 minutes from Jalukie.
The festival was officially inaugurated by Peletkie Village Council Chairman Inkieng Chamlak, who commended the organisers and villagers for creating a grand and memorable event that has captivated audiences across the state.
