Peren DPDB reviews education and connectivity issues

The monthly meeting of the Peren District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) was held at Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall on July 7, chaired by DC and DPDB vice chairman, Hiazu Meru.
Welcoming members and special invitees including principals of government schools and internet service providers, the DC introduced new member Imtisenla Pongener, Senior Tourist Officer, Peren.
In reviewing previous meeting minutes on school adoption, the DC highlighted ongoing efforts by various sub-committees. School representatives raised issues such as poor infrastructure and shared progress made. The DC encouraged career guidance and counselling programmes to equip students for the future.
Responding to concerns from GHSS Ahthibung on building conditions, the DC assured the board that a letter will be forwarded to the state government. On the viral image of a teacher and student crossing Mangleu River via a hanging bridge, the DC clarified it was a three-year-old photo and that a request for a new bridge has been forwarded to 9th Assam Rifles under the MCA scheme. Reports from DEO Peren and SDO (C) Ahthibung have also been sought.
Highlighting the importance of reliable internet, the DC urged service providers to ensure better connectivity for smooth functioning of offices.
Key decisions made include: approval of LADP/Common Pool/Iconic Schemes 2025-26 for 6th Tening and 7th Peren Acs; correction of earlier proposal from “Commission” to “Constitution” of Ahthibung Town Council; approval for converting GMS Sector-A and GHSS Jalukie into a composite school; monthly social work at district and sub-divisional offices and formation of Rural Upliftment Society at Tening Town (as recommended by EAC Tening). ATMA Peren presented its departmental activities through a PowerPoint which the house appreciated. The DC reminded members of the upcoming DISHA meeting on July 9 to be chaired by MP Lok Sabha S. Supongmeren Jamir. All HoDs were asked to prepare detailed presentations.
