Peren holds Census 2027 awareness meeting

DIMAPUR: The deputy commissioner (DC) of Peren, Hiazu Meru, convened a Census Awareness Meeting with apex tribal hohos and civil society organisations at the DC’s Conference Hall, Peren, on June 10 in preparation for Census 2027.
According to a DIPR report, representatives from various organisations attended the meeting, including the Nagaland Zeliang People Organization, Kuki Inpi Nagaland, Zeliangrong Baudi, ZeliangrongMipui Organization, Zeliangrong Youth Organization, Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Zeliang Women Organisation, Zeliang Youth Organization, Zeliang Students’ Union, Kuki Nute Kiloikhom, and Kuki Students’ Organization.
Chairing the programme, DC highlighted the importance of accurate and authentic data collection and informed that 46 supervisors and 250 enumerators, along with reserve personnel, have been designated for the census exercise in the district. He urged citizens to ensure that no one is left out during the enumeration process and called on tribal leaders and civil society organisations to actively support census officials.
SDO (Civil) Peren, Sentilong Ozukum, delivered a presentation on Census 2027, outlining its history and significance. He informed participants that the upcoming census would be conducted digitally for the first time in India.
He also briefed the gathering on the Self-Enumeration Portal under the House Listing Operation (HLO), which will remain open from June 16 to 30, 2026, enabling citizens to register and complete self-enumeration online.
The meeting concluded with discussions on various concerns and suggestions, while the DC appealed to organisations to intensify public awareness and encourage full cooperation with census personnel.
