Peren observes International Youth Day

International Youth Day was observed on August 12 at All Saints Higher Secondary School, Peren, under the theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs: Preventing HIV & Promoting Health.” The event was graced by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Peren, D. Robin, as the special guest.
The event also marked the launching of the Intensified IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) Campaign, which was officially inaugurated by the special guest. The program was organized by DISHA Peren, in collaboration with the Peren Town Youth Organization and Loosen Nuts Bikers Peren, and supported by the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS).
According to a press release by CMO, Peren, ADC D. Robin emphasized the importance of creating awareness and sensitizing the public about HIV/AIDS. He urged the youth, as future leaders, to avoid risky behaviors, uphold strong moral values, and become active agents of social change. He also lauded the efforts of the DISHA team and encouraged them to strengthen their outreach to Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs) for greater community impact.
Peren Town Youth Organization, president, Machi Reunim, called upon the youth and students to be respectful, responsible, and to contribute positively to societal transformation.
DPO, DISHA, Rovikhoto Mor spoke on the day’s theme, expressing concern over the rising number of HIV cases in the district. He noted that Nagaland ranks second to Mizoram in terms of HIV prevalence and stressed the role of young people in spreading awareness. He also outlined the four main routes of HIV transmission, urging youth to be informed and proactive.
Earlier the program was chaired by STS NTEP, Kengimngaule, invocation by associate parish priest, St. Paul Church Peren, Rev. Fr. Jacob Joseph Mathathil. A special song was presented by Samlamle Hemang and vote of thanks was delivered byby DIS, DISHA Peren, Pauheugau.
