Pfutsero College expands with new blocks

DIMAPUR: The new Science and Arts Block buildings of Pfutsero Government College were inaugurated on June 4 by minister for Higher Education & Tourism Temjen Imna Along, in the presence of Dr. Neisatuo Mero MLA.
The Science Block, funded under State Plan 2024 25, was completed in two years, while the Arts Block was constructed under State Plan (HUDCO) 2013 14.
Speaking at the programme, Temjen Imna Along lauded the timely completion of the Science Block and expressed optimism that more developmental projects would follow. He emphasized the importance of education, particularly science education, and reiterated the Department of Higher Education’s commitment to strengthening human resources in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Neisatuo Mero urged teachers to be role models for students, noting that students closely observe their teachers’ teaching, behaviour, and conduct.
Earlier, College Principal Dr. Anungla Pongener highlighted immediate needs of the institution, including furniture, laboratory equipment, improved road connectivity, student hostels, reliable internet facilities, and additional support for teaching and non teaching staff.
According to the technical report of the NPWD (Housing), the Science Block was constructed at a cost of Rs. 470 lakh with a built up area of 936 sq. m, comprising seven classrooms, three laboratories for Biology, Physics and Chemistry, and faculty rooms for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology departments. The Arts Block, built at a cost of Rs. 440 lakh with a built up area of 856 sq. m, houses ten classrooms, HoD and faculty facilities, and separate toilet facilities for faculty and HoDs.
The commemorative plaque was unveiled by Dr. Wetsou Medo, Assistant Professor, Department of History. Rev. Dr. Neingupe Chiero, senior pastor of Pfutsero Town Baptist Church, offered the dedicatory prayer.
The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Vizolenuo Sophie, Assistant Professor of Sociology, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Neiko Ritse, Associate Professor and HoD of Economics.
