A district level Self Help Group (SHG) mela-&-TATA water purifier promotion program was organised by Chakhesang Women Welfare Society (CWWS) on October 5 at Pfutsero Town.
According to CWWS, the program was organized in collaboration with North East Initiative Development Agency-An initiative of TATA Trusts, Kohima, TATA Water Mission-A TATA Trusts Initiative, Uday Foundation Gauhati. It was aimed at providing SHGs from different blocks in the district with a cross learning and earning experience and also to promote safety of drinking water by “making safe drinking water accessible to the masses” through women SHGs. The guest speaker, assistant registrar, Cooperative Societies, Phek district, I. Temjen Ao, lauded the CWWS for strengthening SHGs. Project associate, TWM-NEIDA, Pipenthung Lotha, during the water purifier promotional session, elucidated on the importance of safe drinking water and health risks involved in drinking unsafe water. Associate director & project coordinator, T. Wezah, also encouraged women to develop the habit of tracking their spending and analyze cost effectiveness of the different income generation activities the women undertake.
Nine SHG participants under the category of best agriculture products, best horticulture products and most active SHGs in promotion and adoption of safe drinking water in the district were awarded. Earlier, the program started with a welcome address by executive director CWWS, Vechulo-u Kanuo.
