Pfutseromi Village under Phek district and Lhisemia Khel of Kohima Village under Kohima district reaffirmed and renewed their bonding through the celebration of “100 years of friendship” under the theme, “Reviving and reaffirming the age-old century friendship” on April 27.
In a press release, Centenary celebration, core committee informed that the celebration was hosted by Pfutseromi village, Pfütsero sub-division of Phek district.
Speaking at the programme, NPF president and former chief minister, Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu expressed hope that the friendship would set a new trend for other Nagas and villages to follow suit.
“Nagas are progressing in many aspects but the society lacks oneness and understanding and the coming together of the two big villages will send a strong message to Nagas in general,” said Dr Shurhozelie.
Former minister, Tseivilie Miachieo said in spite of great hardships, the elders of the two villages struggled to reinvigorate the brotherhood. “Today we are celebrating 100 years of friendship in the midst of many divisions among Nagas owing to our obsession with wealth and power,” he said.
He expressed hope that the celebration would be a step in the restoration of Nagas’ past glory “as one people and one nation.”
Chairman of Lhisemia Council, Ayie Yhome while stressing on the theme said the celebration was not only about merrymaking but an affirmation to support each other in years to come.
He also said that the “history of the bonding” should be passed on to the younger generations.
Pfutseromi Village Council chairman, Lhiwepelo Ritse emphasised on knowing and learning each other’s languages and expressed hope that the two villages would continue to uphold the age-old friendship and remain as one family.
Earlier, village council chairmen of Lhisemia Khel and Pfutseromi unveiled the centenary friendship monolith outside Pfutseromi village community hall.
