PGC drama club stages first theatrical production

Pfutsero Government College (PGC) witnessed its first-ever theatrical drama organised by the Drama Club of the department of English at the PGC Auditorium on September 30.
Held under the theme “Decades and Eras,” the programme provided students an opportunity to showcase their theatrical skills, creativity, stage presence and cultural awareness through adaptations and presentations of various literary works.
The performances included Mṛicchakaṭika, Pride and Prejudice, All My Sons, The Color Purple, Pyramus and Thisbe from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, and Macbeth. The presentations explored themes including love, betrayal, redemption, trauma, domestic abuse and women’s empowerment.
As part of the programme, the Department of English also presented its Book Award for Academic Excellence, recognised as one of its best practices. The awards were presented by Head of the Department, Smti Neipreu Mero, to semester-wise winners Neiwezo-u L. Mero (1st Semester), Suvelu Chuzho (3rd Semester) and Atshele Thele (5th Semester).
A Costume Contest was also held, with Sedewe winning the male category and Ketshechulou the female category. The 3rd Semester presentation of All My Sons was adjudged Best Drama.
Individual awards recognised outstanding performances, with Mvusute Khupfu, who portrayed Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, winning Best Actor, and Kaweu Medo, who played Celie in The Color Purple, winning Best Actress. Dzuvelu received the Best Narrator award for narrating Pyramus and Thisbe.
The programme marked a milestone for the Department of English by bringing literature and theatre together while providing students a platform to develop confidence, creativity, stagecraft and appreciation for the performing arts.
