DIMAPUR: Phase I training for enumerators and supervisors under the Census of India 2027 commenced across Kohima district on June 9 and will continue till June 11.
According to DIPR, the three day programme covers census concepts, legal provisions, ground truthing of House Listing Block boundaries, preparation of layout maps, and use of the House Listing Operation (HLO) Mobile App. Participants are being trained in data collection, verification, self enumeration procedures, and data security measures, with practical sessions on mobile app based data entry, error detection, household approaches, handling refusals, and communication protocols. The training will conclude with role play exercises, a Seva Bhaav pledge, and distribution of kits.
The training is being conducted in four batches across different venues. At DIET Chiechama, 43 trainees from Chiephobozou Rural, Chiephobozou Town and Botsa clusters are undergoing training under field trainers Alemsongla Jamir and M. Ruthla Sangtam. At the DPDB Hall, 47 trainees from Sechü Zubza, Jakhama and Kezocha clusters are being guided by Anisha Himb and Ketoriavi Sakhrie. Addressing the trainees, EAC Kezocha Zerutso Kesiezie urged participants to take their responsibilities seriously, stressing that the quality of their work would directly impact the accuracy of government data. At the DC’s Conference Hall, 49 trainees from Kohima Sadar (Rural) and Kohima Sadar (Statutory Town) are being trained by Dr. Keduolhoulie Belho and Dr. Medongulie Tsiekhanuo. EAC Kohima Khriethozo Pfükri described the census as a constitutional exercise of national importance, postponed from 2021 due to COVID 19, and now India’s first fully digital census. He informed that House Listing Operations will be held from July 1 to 31, 2026, followed by Population Enumeration in February 2027. At the DRDA Hall, 50 trainees from Kohima Sadar (Statutory Town) are being trained by Thejakielie Meyase and Savilie Yhor. CEO KMC and City Census Officer Alemyapang Longchar stressed the importance of supervisors in guiding enumerators and ensuring effective conduct of the census.
At Chiephobozou Sub division, training also commenced on June 9 at DIET Conference Hall. Delivering the keynote, ADC Chiephobozou Vekusheyi Rhakho and Sub divisional Census Officer emphasised that census is one of the largest administrative and statistical operations, providing vital data for policy formulation and resource allocation. They urged enumerators and supervisors to ensure accuracy, sincerity and confidentiality, reminding them that census work is a historic responsibility contributing to nation building. The inaugural session was chaired by EAC Viketoulie Metha, with field trainers Alemsongla Jamir and Ruthla Sangtam presenting an overview. Concluding remarks were delivered by EAC Ane Khieya. Altogether, 23 trainees from Botsa, 7 from Chiephobozou Rural and 13 from Chiephobozou Town attended the first phase training.
