Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Nagaland, launched Phase VI of the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) Vaccination Mission under the Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme (LHDCP) at the State Cattle Breeding Farm, Lerie, Kohima, on October 15.
A DIPR report informed that delivering the launch address, director of AH&VS, Dr. B. M. Sunep, highlighted the importance of timely vaccination and urged active participation from all stakeholders to ensure the success of the mission. The campaign will run for two months, from October 15 to December 15, 2025.
Dr. Sunep emphasized the economic impact of FMD on farmers and stressed the need for effective control and eradication of the disease by 2030, in line with LHDCP guidelines issued by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India.
The mission aims to immunize approximately 60,000 cattle and other susceptible animals across the state against FMD, a highly contagious disease that poses a major threat to livestock health and productivity.
As part of the ongoing campaign, the department has urged all livestock owners to avail the free vaccination service at designated centres or contact the nearest Veterinary Institute.
To mark the launch, Dr. Sunep administered the first vaccine dose at the event.
