
District Water & Sanitation Mission (DWSM), PHED Kiphire division in collaboration with Akehda Amulung (ISA) observed “Nadi Utsav” river festival in commemoration of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner (DC) Kiphire on November 3.
In a press release, office of PHED Kiphire division informed that during the launching of the programme, EAC Kiphire Chumbenthung Murry spoke on the genesis of “Ganga Utsav” river festival, its objective and significance.
JE (PHED), Dilemla highlighted the main rivers under Kiphire district and said that the vision of “Nadi Utsav” was to strengthen the relationship between public-river connect and to outreach people by organising various activities to spread awareness on conservation of river water. As a mark of gesture and to imbibe the sense of festivities, a series of activities were also carried out such as drawing competition on theme “importance of river” at Good Shepherd High School, Kiphire which was participated by more than 80 students, while signature campaign related to river conservation was also conducted where more than 150 people signed and pledged to conserve river water. The “Nadi Utsav” River festival was led by officials from DWSM, PHED Kiphire division and was attended by members of Akehda Amulung (ISA), volunteers from Nehru Yuva and students from Good Shepherd High School. It may be mentioned that the objective of the programme was to promote engagement of various stakeholders and ensure greater public participation for the sustenance of river water.
