
Public Health Engineering Department’s (PHED’s) online water bill payment system for commercial establishments was officially launched by Chief Secretary, Pankaj Kumar (IAS), at Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall, Friday afternoon.
Kumar acknowledged the administrative head of the department, his team of engineers and department of IT &C for successful launch of the program.
He mentioned the system had begun with the power sector and was operational in eight towns where consumers pay their bills without having to leave their homes.
He said while the power department was operating the online system through a scheme, there was no scheme for PHED thereby, according to him, the department creating one of its own was notable.
The chief secretary was confident that this facility would be extended for domestic consumers in the state capital and also for all other districts soon.
Speaking on the occasion, PHE department secretary, Moangwati Aier (IAS) said this was a first time initiative for the department and the initial trial was being implemented in Kohima as part of its Smart City plan.
According to him, the first phase of the online billing system has been launched in Kohima for commercial establishments only, and added that the same system will be incorporated for all other districts after the necessary work on the database and software.
The online payment system will be opened in a week or so to domestic consumers, he said. Aier pointed out that this online payment system will ease the task of paying water bills for consumers. He also appraised the gathering on the generation of revenue by the department: 2.5 crores between 2017 and 2018, with a target of 2.6 crores for 2018 and 19. He was confident that the department would achieve its target soon.
