PHED organises SBM programmes in various districts

Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) organised programmes under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Grameen II at various blocks under Mokokchung, Kiphire and Tuensang districts.
Mokokchung: PHED Mokokchung division organised a two-day capacity building training on ODF Plus components for Swachhagrahis and WATSAN committee members from May 24-25 at community hall, Sangtemla ward Mokokchung town.
In a press release, PHED Mokokchung division informed that the main objective of training, sponsored by Sanitation & WSSO, PHED Nagaland, was to ensure effective implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G) Phase II and to achieve ODF Plus.
Resource persons of the training were district coordinator PHED, Alemjungla Longchar, IEC consultant PHED, Rongentola and sanitation & hygiene consultant PHED, Tsungrusungla Jamir.
The training was attended by participants from 50 villages from Chuchuyimlang, Kubolong, Ongpangkong-North and Ongpangkong-South blocks.
Kiphire: PHED Kiphire division in collaboration with North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) organised a capacity building for WATSAN committee and village functionaries under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Swachh Bharat Mission (G) on May 24 at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall, Kiphire.
PHED Kiphire division informed that executive engineer PHED and member secretary, DWSM, Er. Akokba Sair highlighted the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) functions.
He said DWSM headed by DC and executive engineer as member-secretary and various departments as members were responsible for overall implementation of JJM at district level.
Er. Sair gave an overview of JJM, roles of government, Implementing Support Agency (ISA) and various convergence opportunities on water and sanitation with various departments. EAC Kiphire, Ane Khieya urged the participants to fully support and cooperate in planning, implementing and monitoring successful execution of JJM. Pointing out that Kiphire was an aspirational district, Khieya stressed on the importance of collaboration and significant role of WATSAN committee and village functionaries at village level to achieve FHTC in all rural households.
NEIDA project associate, Khrolhiwe-u Tsuhah gave a presentation while junior engineer PHED, Er. Metmei Phom stressed on the importance of 5% community contribution to implement JJM project.
Earlier, on May 23, Kiphire held its second District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) meeting where the members discussed various activities and action plans for JJM. According to a DIPR report, chairman of the meeting, executive engineer PHED and member secretary, DWSM, Er. Akokba Sair highlighted DWSM functions and informed that VAPs & DPRs for Kiphire district have been approved. NEIDA project associate, Khrolhiwe-u Tsuhah presented a background of partnership between NEIDA and PHED and the members also discussed MoU terms and conditions. Tsuhah also presented the overall activity status of JJM implementation in 62 villages and briefed on planned activities for FY 2022-2023. PHED junior engineer, Er. Metmei Phom presented FHTC status of JJM implementation in Longmatra, Pungro and Khonsa blocks till FY 2020-2021.
Later, chemist Horili Sangtam updated Field-Testing Kits training status for water quality team for Longmatra, Pungro and Khonsa.
In his remark, SDO civil, James Khulu highlighted the significance of partnership with different stakeholders and communities to successfully implement FHTC in every household by 2023.
Tuensang: PHED Tuensang division conducted Information, Education and Communication (IEC) awareness and capacity building programme on SBM Grameen II on May 13 at Shamator district, Tuensang district and on May 19 at Noklak district.
The awareness programme was sponsored by WSSO and sanitation, PHED Nagaland.
In Shamator district, 12 villages from Shamator block WATSAN chairmen and swachhagrahis attended the programme at EBRC Hall Shamator Town.
At the programme, SDO PHED Shamator, Er. Imna Longchar highlighted the importance of Swachh Bharat Mission ODF Plus and its components.
District coordinator, N. Sangtam talked about the main objective of SBM(G) II ODF plus components and its criteria as per SBM(G) II issued by the ministry of Jal Shakti.
Topics including SBM(G) II target 2020-21-2024-25, importance of swachhagrahis on SBM(G)II, solid waste management (compost pit and plastic waste managements) liquid waste management (greywater management through community soakage pit and individual soak pit), etc were also highlighted.
Sangtam said the village council should utilise a minimum of 60% or more of the 15FC and MGNREGA fund received in the yearly grant from RD/DRDA as the tied fund at village levels to achieve total sanitation in the village.
Sangsangnyu block: SDO PHED, Er. Lipoksangla spoke on the 15FC tied fund to be used in the sanitation related activities. and grey water management. IEC Consultant PHED Tuensang, Fairyson Jings spoke on the following topic, ODF to ODF Plus Criteria in SBM(G) II, importance of Swachhagrahis on SBM (G) II, Solid waste management (plastic waste management). Around 23 villages participated in the training.
Longkhim block: During the training at Longkhim town, sanitation and hygiene consultant, Tsikingmong talked about solid and liquid waste management with the main focus on grey water management and plastic waste management. Around 23 participants from 12 villages attended the training.
Noklak block: At the training at Khiamniungam Baptist Church Association, Komking mission compound Noklak Town, district coordinator N. Sangtam spoke on SBM (G) II ODF plus, solid waste management and IEC –behaviour change communication to achieve ODF Plus villages, utilization of 15FC tied fund to be used in the sanitation and water related activities in the village gram panchayat. Around 56 participants from Noklak block attended the programme.
