PHED Phek observes water awareness & world water day

Public Health Engineering department under Phek division culminated its weeklong awareness week on drinking water and sanitation from March 16 to 22 cum world water day on March 22 at SIRD hall. 
Speaking on the occasion, executive engineer Er. T Imliakum while exhorting said that PHED exist for giving good water supply to the people for sound health. Stating that water was life, he urged the gathering to preserve water source and asked them to keep their catchment area protected. Avoid cutting trees, plantation and stone at the nearby water source, he said. While also stressing on the importance of personal hygiene he said, “we keep talking about hand washing but we never keep it in practise”.  Stating that handwashing with soap was of upmost importance, Er. Imliakum said “one” should adapt this simple lifestyle of handwashing with soap daily in life in order to avoid save getting sick and diseases.  He also stressed on how to dispose of human faeces properly as human faeces could lead to various health related diseases. 
He also encouraged the WATSAN members to play active role in bringing a change in their village and enable the village to achieve open defecation free by 2019 under Phek division.
While highlighting on the objectives of the world water day, SDO PHED Chozuba, Er. Neitelo Koza said that this year theme focused on the central role that water plays in creating and supporting good quality jobs and quality water.  
Er. Theyiesietuo SDO PHED Meluri who also spoke on sanitation stressed that “one” should have a positive attitude and civic sense towards cleaning. He urged the parents to teach their children about good sanitary practices.
During the weeklong awareness program, activities like painting competition, rally, water testing quality on respective villages of Meluri and Chozuba sub division and cleaning of main water reservoir. Participatory rural appraisal exercises were alos conducted at Meluri and Chozuba sub-division and  Sunday school children of Phek Town Baptist Church along with teachers participated where importance of hand washing and techniques were taught.
