
PHED urban division (UD), Dimapur organised an IEC training and awareness programme for WATSAN committee members and village council members under the maintenance sub-division on March 14 at the divisional office.
In his keynote address, executive engineers (PHED), Er. P. Khetoi Sema emphasised on the importance of toilet, usage and community participation towards achieving open defecation free and encouraged the participants for active participation and involvement in this mission in order to make an ODF Dimapur district.
Highlighting the “swaach bharat mission (G)” undertaken by the department, SDO (PHED), Er. Bendangtula emphasised on the construction of individual household latrines and encouraged the gathering to give toilets more importance and build sanitary latrines which were conducive for the environment.
While briefing participants on the importance of safe disposal of solid and liquid waste, disposal of babies’ excreta and the practice of hand washing with soap, SDO (PHED), Er. Ichirang Zelaing stressed on the health hazards posed by improper sanitation and poor drainage system in the rural areas.
The programme was chaired by SDO (PHED), Er. Merentoshi and invocation was pronounced by DHA Apokla. It may be noted that the main objective of the workshop was to identify and promote practice of toilet usage and disseminate the safe disposal of solid liquid waste as a campaign towards cleanliness and safe sanitation.
