
A month long Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercise was conducted by PHED Urban Division Kohima under the aegis of WSSO PHED in all habitations under urban division PHED Kohima such as Kohima village (L Khel, T Khel P Khel D Khel), Jotsoma, Phezou Science college, Phesama, Chedema, Chede-Model, Keyake, Phegei and Sanuorü/Peraciezie.
A press release from state IEC consultant WSSO PHED Nagaland, Thepfulie stated that the exercise was conducted from March 1 to April 2 on an alternate basis to understand water and sanitation scenario in the habitations and people’s perception about various precautions and practices of safe drinking water and sanitation. Further, to encourage the practice of certain basic sanitary habits, sustainable water resource management, and solid and liquid waste management, these issues were discussed with the villagers to create mass awareness at the grass-root levels.
The exercise was very well participated in and well received by village people where and they recommended that more such rural appraisal exercises be conducted so that collective community participation in water and sanitation related issues could be deliberated upon and remedial measures worked out.
