Phek CSOs flay rape attempt; demand action

DIMAPUR, OCT 5 (NPN)

Phek Area Mother’s Association (PAMA), Phek Area Public Organization (PAPO) and Kizari Village Council (KVC) have strongly condemned the alleged attempted rape to one of its member, reportedly committed by one Hegukha Chophi of Tsutoho Village on September 24.
In a press release, PAMA president Akole Vero and general secretary Ravelu Khamo, termed the act as “heinous” and a gross violation of human rights and dignity. It further described the incident as a serious threat to the safety and security of the community, particularly women and vulnerable individuals.
PAMA stated that acts of violence and intimidation have no place in a civilized society and called for swift and impartial justice. The association urged law enforcement authorities to take immediate and decisive action to ensure the accused is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
It also appealed to the concerned authorities to provide protection, legal support, and counseling to the victim, and to ensure her safety and well-being. Calling for public solidarity against gender-based violence, PAMA encouraged support for initiatives that promote respect, equality, and justice for all. The association reiterated that any form of sexual violence, threat, or coercion would not be tolerated and emphasized the collective responsibility to uphold the rights and dignity of every individual.
PAPO: PAPO has also condemned the alleged rape of a prayer house keeper at Kizari Village, reportedly committed by Hekugha Chophi of Tsutoho village, a member of the NSCN (I-M).
In a condemnation letter, PAPO president Wepelo Mebou and general secretary Vechizo Khamo stated that this was the third such offence committed by the accused, describing the act as “heinous and inhuman.”
PAPO expressed deep anguish over the repeated violations and called for immediate and stringent action from the concerned authorities to ensure justice is delivered without delay. PAPO stated that such acts are unacceptable in a civilized society and must be treated with utmost seriousness. It further demanded that the accused be punished as per the law of the land. PAPO also appealed to civil society and community leaders to stand united and assist in tracing the accused. It urged the concerned authorities to arrest him at the earliest and ensure justice is delivered to the fullest before the public.

KVC: KVC has strongly condemned the recent incident of molestation and sexual harassment allegedly committed by Hekugha Chophi of Tsutoho village, against a bonafide female member of the village.
In a condemnation note, Head GB Kuthozuyi Rhakho and chairman of Kizari Village Council Kevedu Chizo, termed the act as “reprehensible and unlawful,” stating that it constitutes a grave violation of human dignity and an affront to the values of respect, equality, and justice upheld by society. The council affirmed its firm stance that any form of sexual harassment, molestation, or violence against women and girls is intolerable and must be met with the strictest legal action. It called for the accused to be held fully accountable under the law and for justice to be delivered without delay.
Expressing deep sympathy and support to the victim and her family, the council emphasized the collective responsibility to create a safe, respectful, and dignified environment free from fear, exploitation, and abuse.
