Phek Government College bids farewell to retiring principal

The faculty, staff and students of Phek Government College (PGC) held a farewell programme for the retiring principal Dr. Vizovol Mekro on December 18, at the academic building PGC.

Speaking on the occasion, vice principal Shepalu Suyie congratulated Dr. Vizovol Mekro for successfully completing his service years and acknowledged the many contributions of Dr.V. Mekro during his time as a teacher and an administrator.

Suyie lauded retiring principal for his unfailing support for the college development both academically and in infrastructure as well.

Recalling, the period when the now retiring principal first joined the college, Suyie said that the college was at its nascent period gearing for NAAC accreditation, the principal joined at the right time with his vast experience and thus helped the college achieve its wishes for NAAC accreditation. The vice principal also congratulates Dr. Vizovol Mekro for receiving the Governors Commendation Award 2021 bringing laurels to the college.

Dr. Vizovol Mekro while addressing the audience in his farewell programme fondly recollected his first interaction with PGC when he was still teaching at Science College Jotsoma. He also thanked the faculty, staff, students and the local community for making his stay at PGC a pleasant and memorable stay.

Dr. Vizovol Mekro while appreciating the beauty of Phek and its surrounding areas, challenged the faculty and staff to work harder while being posted at this beautiful place and make PGC a “Jewel in the East”. He also encouraged the college to carry on the many activities that were kick started during his time at PGC.

A special message from the Minister for Tribal Affairs and Higher and Technical Education, Government of Nagaland, Temjen Imna Along was also read out by the vice principal. The minister lauded and congratulated the retiring principal for successfully retiring in good health and hope that he will continue to work for the upliftment of higher education in the state.

Short speeches and facilitations to the retiring principal Dr. Vizovol Mekro were delivered by Zholhuta Khesoh, Nusata Rhakho, Dr. Medongulie Zatsu and Boboi on behalf of the students, ministerial staff, IQAC and the faculty respectively. 

The programme was chaired by assistant professor Dr. Levinu Sakhri and was attended by the students, faculty, staff and local community bodies.
