The 41st Annual Sports Meet of Phek Government College commenced from March 20 under the theme, “Beyond the finish line,” with Superintendent of Police, Phek , Dr. Pritpal Kaur Batra, as inaugural guest. In her address, Dr. Kaurencouraged students to take active part in sports, stating that sports was a way of life, a lifestyle. She highlighted the importance of discipline in sports and life in general. She reminded students how life is like sports and why it is necessary to always compete with oneself even in the journey of life.
She pointed that it is of essence to have control over one’s mind and not let a single defeat or failure hinder oneself. She exhorted students to motivate one another even after a win or success and that in emulating this positive attitude lies the true spirit of the theme ‘beyond the finish line.’
Dr. Kaur concluded her speech by reminding students that participation is more important than winning and urged students to play with a purpose and true sportsmanship. The speech was followed by oath taking led by Albert Pou, games and sports secretary PGC. The first day of the sports meet began with wrestling matches, volleyball exhibition match between lady teachers and female students, football exhibition match between male faculty and male students’ executives. The four-day event 20th – 23rd March will comprise of games like – wrestling, bamboo stick walking, various track events, football, volleyball etc.
The programme was led by Kuveduvo Vero of B.A 6th Semester. Other highlights were: invocation by Seyieleno Nisa, assistant professor, department of history, welcome note by. Jonathan Kikon, asst. prof, department of economics and a song by Hobito Swuro of B.A 6th semester.
