
The two-day long 63rd general session-cum- cultural dance competition of Phek Students’ Union (PSU) concluded Thursday, at Phek village on the theme “cultural identity in modern context”.
Speaking at the cultural session, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, MLA, said that there no doubt, preservation of culture occupied a prominent position, however, he said that a time had come “to identify the good and bad ones,”.
Azo lamented how a good tradition such as honesty and hospitality was eroding.
Further, he said that there was always room for improvement and that “we must perpetually endeavour and strive to do better.”
Acknowledging the pioneers of the union, PSU president Tuku Venuh recalled how the union underwent various changes, morally, socially, economically and politically over the last 63 years.
Pointing out how people lived in a bewildering world, constantly confronted with various concepts, Tuku urged upon the students not to be carried away.
He congratulated the newly inducted PSU president Vepo Soho and other office bearers and appealed to the seniors, village leaders and organisations to take the union to greater heights.
At the programme, Phek village council chairman, Kuzhoniecho Keyho paid tribute to Lt. Huvekhuyi Keyho and thanked the family members for donating cultural dance competition trophy and also extended gratitude to other sponsors.
Lamenting that culture was slowly disappearing, he challenged the young generation to work for revival of the rich culture and tradition.
Losami Students Union president, Wehiwu Mekrisuh also sahred greetings.
Meanwhile during the cultural dance competition, Ketouzou Khel emerged as the winner and Old Town Khel as the runner-up.
Earlier, the cultural session was chaired by Venyi Soho while Phek Village Baptist Church pastor, Vesito Venuh said the invocation.
Statistical report was given by Hukuyi Venuh while in the valedictory session, Capital College of Higher Education Kohima, principal, Dr. Zhokho Venuh spoke on the topic “adapting to the new education system.”
The valedictory session was chaired by Tsipolii Vero and concluded with vote of thanks from PSU finance secretary Tsito Huire.
