Phek Town Council marks firstanniversary with development highlights

DIMAPUR

The Phek Town Council (PTC) commemorated its first anniversary on July 9 with a celebration held at the PTC Conference Hall, highlighting its achievements over the past year.
Speaking at the occasion, PTC chairperson Shevohu Nienu reflected on the council’s founding vision, “to build a cleaner, greener and more progressive Phek.” He noted that the milestone was not only a moment for reflection but also for reaffirming commitment to continued growth and community-driven development.
Among the key achievements during its first year in office, the PTC completed 4 km of blacktopping on town roads, equipped with a proper drainage system. Additional initiatives included town beautification projects, renovation of the PTC office, construction of the PTC gate, and the establishment of a designated one-stop shopping bazaar area in the main town.
Chairperson Nienu expressed gratitude to chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio and his cabinet for successfully conducting the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections in Nagaland in 2024, after a gap of two decades. He acknowledged minister KG Kenye for his role in overcoming legal, administrative and social challenges leading up to the polls, commending the “opposition-less” government for its inclusive approach.
Appreciation was also extended to advisor Zhaleo Rio for equitable distribution of development packages across the state’s municipal and town councils. Special mention was made of Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, MLA and leader of the NPF Legislature Party, for his extensive support to the council, both politically and financially.
Nienu thanked the district administration, various departments, and community organizations including the Phek Town Public Organization, Chakhesang Students’ Union, Women Society, Youth Society, ward chairpersons, GBs, churches, and NGOs for their partnership and civic engagement. He also lauded the residents of Phek for their continued trust and constructive feedback.
“Our vision for Phek Town must grow toward better roads, safer communities, livelihood opportunities and digital governance,” Nienu said, adding that the council exists not as a seat of power but as a platform for the people, by the people.
ADC and executive officer of PTC, Thejakhrienuo Nisa, also addressed the gathering. The programme was chaired by PTC deputy chairperson Chetezo Akami, while pastor of Phek Town Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Thupuchiyi Khesoh, led the opening prayer and invoked blessings for the council’s continued service.
