In a display of community initiative, residents of Hebron-1 Ward Middle Sector in Phek town undertook the repair of a 300-metre stretch of road using scrapped blacktop material, making it more pedestrian-friendly especially during the ongoing monsoon season.
Faced with deteriorating road conditions, residents voluntarily contributed funds to carry out the maintenance work. It was learnt that the scrapped blacktop was sourced from the ongoing two-lane highway construction between Khomi and Pholami villages. The discarded material was crushed into smaller pieces and carefully laid to improve road quality.
A total of 27 trips of the material, transported using a pick-up truck (Yodha vehicle), were used to complete the month-long task. The sector expressed special gratitude to Kuzholuzo Nienu, MLA, and the PhekâSathari Road Construction Project team led by Avi Movi for providing machinery support free of cost. The ward also acknowledged local YouTuber Kushe Naga Vlogs for video coverage during the mass social work.
