Phom CSOs endorse ‘Naga Oxford Declaration on Repatriation’

Phom civil society organisations (CSOs) including Phom People’s Council (PPC), Phomla Hoichem (PH), and Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) unanimously resolved to endorse the “Naga Oxford Declaration on Repatriation” propounded by Naga tribal leaders at the Pitt Rivers Museum (PRM), University of Oxford on June 13, 2025. In a press release, PPC president YB Angam Phom. And vice president NT Thamlong Phom informed that the resolution was taken at a special joint meeting of all CSOs of Phom community on June 24, 2025.
At the meeting, PPC vice president NT Thamlong Phom, who represented Phom tribe in the Naga delegation visit to PRM, gave a report of the stay at PRM. He highlighted about the artefacts and the human remains of Phom ancestors helping decide the way forward for the repatriation of the Naga Human remains.
PPC expressed pain and surprise that many human remains belonged to the Phom Naga tribe.
PPC and CSOs of Phom community expressed gratitude and appreciation to Recover, Restore and Decolonise (RRad) team under the aegis of FNR for undertaking steps for repatriation of the Naga ancestors remains. PPC appealed to the Naga people to work unitedly for the earlier repatriation of the Naga human remains.
