Launching programme for Phom Language Promotion and Translation Cell was held on March 6, at Yingli College, Longleng with DC Longleng, W Manpai Phom as the special guest.
A press release by Yingli College stated that speaking at the programme, special guest W Manpai Phom, emphasized on the importance of language and its unifying factor and encouraged students to carry forward aims and objectives of the Phom Language Promotion and Translation Cell and to leave a legacy of excellence for the upcoming generation of students.
Principal Yingli College, Dr. T Temsu Imti, in his keynote address spoke about implementation of regional languages in educational institutions as per NEP 2020 and encouraged use of common Phom dialect among students and preservation of one’s mother tongue.
A short speech was also delivered by the president, Phom People’s Council, YB Angam, who expressed gratitude for achieving the target of establishing the cell and also at the progress of the college which was established in 1992.
The cell was launched with the hope that it would sow foundation for introduction of Phom language in the college as a subject.
